Rajasthan Royals, winners of the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), on Monday announced that Kumar Sangakkara would continue in the dual role of Director of Cricket and Head Coach and will be assisted by Trevor Penney for the 2023 season of the tournament.
Kumar Sangakkara's former national teammate, Sri Lankan bowling legend Lasith Malinga, remains with the franchise as fast bowling coach, with Zubin Bharucha as director of strategy, development, and performance, Giles Lindsay as head of analytics and technology, Siddharth Lahiri He will serve as the assistant coach. Dishant Yagnik will serve as the fielding coach.
The IPL 2022 runners-up have also roped Mon Brockman as their mental performance coach and Neil Barry as assistant physio. Brockman, who has previously worked with athletes from various Olympic Games, joins the team to assist with mental conditioning and help players make decisions under pressure.
Meanwhile, Barry has served the Barbados Royals, the Rajasthan Royals' partner franchise in the Caribbean Premier League, and will assist John Gloster during the IPL season. The Sanju Samson-led team has also retained the services of John Gloster (Head Physio), Dr. Rob Young (Team Doctor), and AT Rajamani Prabhu (Strength and Conditioning Coach).
Rajasthan Royals will start their IPL 2023 campaign against 2016 IPL winners Sunrisers Hyderabad on 2nd April in Hyderabad, and the match will begin at 3:30 PM.
